TRUMAN STATE DEFEATS NKU, 5-0
Norse open season with loss to nations 12th-ranked team
ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Matt Byers and Ryan Swan scored two goals apiece Friday night as 12th-ranked Truman State University defeated the Northern Kentucky University mens soccer team, 5-0, in the first round of the Missouri-St. Louis Classic.
Truman State (1-0) entered the match ranked No. 12 nationally in the Division II preseason poll and built a 5-0 halftime lead behind the offensive attack of Byers and Swan. Justin Shew also scored a goal for Truman State before halftime.
Goalie T.J. Dube picked up the shutout for the Bulldogs, who posted a 7-0 win against NKU (0-1) last season. NKU will play Rockhurst (Mo.) at noon on Sunday in the second round of the Missouri-St. Louis Classic.
