NKU POSTS 4-3 OVERTIME WIN AGAINST KWC

WILDER, Ky. - Tony Becker scored a goal in the second overtime Sunday afternoon to give the Northern Kentucky University men’s soccer team a 4-3 victory over Kentucky Wesleyan College in a match played at the Town & Country Sports Complex.

NKU improved to 7-9-1 overall, 4-6-1 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. The Norse, however, were eliminated from GLVC Tournament contention when Missouri-St. Louis defeated Indianapolis, 1-0, on Sunday. UMSL received the seventh and final GLVC Tournament berth with a 5-6 record.

It marks the first time this decade NKU will not qualify for the GLVC Tournament. The Norse won GLVC championships in 1992, ’93 and ’95.

Mike Poole scored a pair of goals for NKU on Sunday, and Adam Gregory also scored a goal for the Norse. NKU will finish its 1999 season next weekend with road matches at Truman State and Lincoln (Mo.).
