IPFW DEFEATS NKU, 1-0, ON SATURDAY

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - Chris Kramer scored a goal seven minutes into the second half Saturday afternoon as the Indiana-Purdue at Fort Wayne men’s soccer team posted a 1-0 win against Northern Kentucky University.

Braden Butler assisted on Kramer’s goal at the 52:12 mark, and Mastodon goalie Jeff Richey recorded the shutout with four saves. IPFW outshot NKU 21-6 and improved to 12-2-2 overall, 6-1-2 in the GLVC.

NKU dropped to 6-9-1 overall, 3-6-1 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. The Norse - who have now lost five consecutive matches - are faced with a must-win situation against Kentucky Wesleyan College at 3 p.m. on Sunday if they are to have any hope of qualifying for the GLVC Tournament.

The top seven teams will qualify for the GLVC Tournament, which begins on Nov. 3 at campus sites. The Norse are currently in eighth place, one-half game behind Missouri-St. Louis.

If Missouri-St. Louis defeats Indianapolis on Sunday, NKU will be eliminated from GLVC Tournament contention. NKU has advanced to the GLVC Tournament each season this decade, and the Norse have won the GLVC championship three times in the past nine years (1992, 1993, 1995).
