RENSSELAER, Ind. - Corey Seegers scored 25 of his 27 points in the second half Thursday night as Saint Joseph's College defeated Northern Kentucky University, 94-82. Saint Joseph's shot 63.3 percent in the second half to coast to the win. Derek Fey scored 18 points and grabbed 11 rebounds for the Pumas. Defensively we didn't guard well on the perimeter or the post, said NKU head coach Ken Shields. Jamie Holden also scored 16 points and dished out 9 assists as Saint Joseph's improved to 13-11 overall, 9-8 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. Saint Joseph's held a 41-29 lead at the break. Holden led the Pumas with 11 first half points as Saint Joseph's shot 50 percent from the field. In the second half, NKU cut the lead to 63-57 with 10 minutes remaining, but Saint Joseph's used a 19-9 run to take an 82-66 lead. Seegers had nine points during the run. NKU outrebounded Saint Joseph's, 42-33. The Norse, though, shot only 25 percent from the three-point line including 1-of-13 in the first half. You got to give Saint Joseph's credit, said Shields. They simply outplayed us tonight. The Norse were lead by Kevin Reinhardt who came off the bench to score 23 points and grab 10 rebounds. Steve Purdon also added 21 points for NKU(15-12 overall, 8-9 GLVC). Reinhardt had a good night for us, said Shields. NKU will conclude the two-game GLVC road trip with a 7:30 p.m. game against Indianapolis. |
