SMITH EARNS GLVC WEEKLY HONOR

NKU senior forward named GLVC co-Player of the Week

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - Northern Kentucky University’s Quentin Smith has been named Great Lakes Valley Conference co-Player of the Week in men’s basketball.

Smith, a senior forward and a graduate of Mount Healthy High School in Cincinnati, averaged 18.5 points, 7.5 rebounds and shot 54.2 percent from the field last week to lead the Norse to a pair of GLVC wins and sole possession of first place in the GLVC. During NKU’s first-place showdown with Lewis on Thursday, Smith scored 18 points, grabbed five rebounds, dished out three assists and had two steals as the Norse snapped the Flyers’ nine-game win streak with an 83-71 victory.

On Saturday, Smith keyed NKU’s come-from-behind 77-63 win over Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville with 19 points, 10 rebounds and a perfect 7-of-7 from the free throw line. Smith scored 12 of his 19 points in the second half - including eight during the final 3 1/2 minutes - as NKU overcame a six-point deficit.

For the season, Smith averages 12.8 points and a team-leading 7.5 rebounds per game, and he is shooting 53.3 percent from the field.

Smith shared the GLVC weekly honor with University of Wisconsin-Parkside’s Quincey Moman.
