Mitchell scores 16 points as Norse improve to 5-1 |

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - Carl Mitchell scored 16 points, grabbed nine rebounds and blocked four shots Thursday night as the Northern Kentucky University mens basketball team defeated the University of Indianapolis, 76-53, in Regents Hall. Brenden Stowers added 13 points and eight rebounds as the Norse improved to 5-1 overall, 2-1 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. Bobby St-Preux and Craig Sanders also scored in double figures with 12 points apiece. Sanders has now scored in double figures in 26 consecutive games dating back to last season. The last time Sanders was held below double figures was Jan. 6, 2001, during a 90-75 loss at Southern Indiana. The NKU record for consecutive games in double figures is 39, set by Brady Jackson. NKU built a 32-24 halftime lead as Mitchell scored eight points and the Norse held Indianapolis (3-2, 1-2 GLVC) to 34.4 percent shooting from the field. In the second half, NKU made 55.2 percent of its shots from the field to roll to the victory. NKU has now beaten Indianapolis six consecutive times. The Norse have not lost to Indianapolis since Feb. 9, 1999, when the Greyhounds posted an 81-71 win over NKU in Regents Hall. |
