NKU DEFEATS NORTHERN MICHIGAN, 89-57

Norse advance to play Kentucky Wesleyan at 2 p.m. Saturday

 

OWENSBORO, Ky. - Senior forward Scott Marston scored 16 points Friday afternoon as the Northern Kentucky University men’s basketball team defeated Northern Michigan University, 89-57, in the first round of the NCAA Division II Great Lakes Region Tournament in the Owensboro Sportscenter.

NKU connected on 14 of 29 three-point shots and improved to 26-6. The Norse advanced to Saturday afternoon’s 2 p.m. Great Lakes Region semifinal game against Kentucky Wesleyan College. The Norse met KWC (27-2) only once this season and dropped a 75-64 decision to the Panthers in the Owensboro Sportscenter.

NKU has not defeated KWC in the Owensboro Sportscenter since the 1988 season. KWC is the No. 1 seed in the Great Lakes Region, and NKU is the No. 5 seed.

The winner of Saturday’s game will advance to the Great Lakes Region championship contest at 4 p.m. on Sunday.
