NKU sophomore named GLVC co-Player of the Week

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - Northern Kentucky University’s Mike Kelsey has been named Great Lakes Valley Conference co-Player of the Week in men’s basketball.

Kelsey, a sophomore guard and a graduate of Elder High School in Cincinnati, scored 23 points Saturday night as NKU defeated Kentucky State University, 90-65, in the championship game of the John L. Griffin/Lions Club Classic in Regents Hall. Kelsey connected on six three-point shots as NKU (2-0) captured the tournament championship for the fourth consecutive year.

He also scored 11 points and hit a trio of three-point shots Friday night as NKU defeated the University of Findlay, 70-62, in the first round of the tournament. Kelsey was named the tournament’s most valuable player.

For the week, Kelsey averaged 17.0 points, made 57.9 percent of his shots from the field and also had three steals. He also was 9 of 16 (56.3 percent) from three-point range.

Kelsey shared the GLVC honor with Bellarmine University’s Justin Cornell.
