Sanders breaks NKU career three-point field goal record

EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. - Craig Sanders scored 30 points Saturday afternoon as the Northern Kentucky University men’s basketball team defeated Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville, 90-62, at the Vadalabene Center.

Sanders also connected on eight three-point shots and became NKU’s all-time career leader with 304 three-point field goals. Sanders, a graduate of McNicholas High School, passed Paul Cluxton (303 three-pointers) for the Norse career record.

Sanders also has scored in double figures in 33 consecutive games, and the NKU record for consecutive games in double figures is 39 (held by Brady Jackson).

Bobby St-Preux added 17 points, nine rebounds and five steals as NKU improved to 9-4 overall, 5-2 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. Carl Mitchell scored 15 points and had seven rebounds for the Norse, and Brenden Stowers finished with 10 points, six assists and four steals.

NKU built a 44-29 halftime lead by shooting 51.7 percent from the field. The Norse also held SIUE (6-8 overall, 2-6 GLVC) to just 39.3 percent shooting from the field.

The Norse now own 12 consecutive victories against SIUE. NKU has not lost to SIUE since the 1991-92 season, when the Cougars posted a 97-90 win against the Norse in Edwardsville, Ill.

Since joining the GLVC, SIUE has gone 0-11 against NKU. The Norse lead the all-time series with the Cougars, 13-4.
