Sanders ties NKU double-figures streak at 39 games |

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - Craig Sanders scored 17 points Thursday night as the Northern Kentucky University mens basketball team defeated Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville, 90-55, in Regents Hall. Sanders has now scored in double figures in 39 consecutive games, which ties the NKU record held by Brady Jackson. Sanders also has 1,829 career points, which ranks No. 5 in school history. NKU shot 60.6 percent from the field in the first half to build a 50-27 lead. The Norse (14-5 overall, 10-3 Great Lakes Valley Conference) also held SIUE to 34.4 percent shooting from the field during the first 20 minutes. Brenden Stowers and Carl Mitchell both finished with 13 points for the Norse, who own 13 consecutive victories against SIUE. NKU has not lost to SIUE since the 1991-92 season, when the Cougars posted a 97-90 win against the Norse in Edwardsville, Ill. Jordan Stowers recorded career highs in assists (eight) and rebounds (seven) on Thursday. Bobby St-Preux added 12 points and seven rebounds for NKU, and Mike Kelsey finished with 11 points. NKU played without head coach Ken Shields, who underwent back surgery on Wednesday. Shields is also expected to miss Saturdays game against Lewis University. |
