HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - Todd Clark scored 21 points and grabbed seven rebounds Saturday afternoon as the Northern Kentucky University mens basketball team defeated Kentucky Wesleyan College, 106-86, in a battle of teams ranked in the Division II top 10. Clark scored 11 points in the first half as seventh-ranked NKU built a 51-29 lead. The Norse made 58.6 percent of their shots from the field in the first half and limited third-ranked Kentucky Wesleyan to 38.5 percent shooting from the field. Craig Sanders scored 17 of his 20 points after halftime, including a trio of three-pointers in the opening four minutes of the second half. NKU built a 77-48 lead midway through the second half and coasted to the win. Brenden Stowers added 16 points as NKU improved to 16-2 overall, 7-2 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. Brian Lawhon scored 14 points for the Norse, and Carl Mitchell added 11 points and two blocked shots. NKU has now won 25 consecutive games in Regents Hall. The last team to beat NKU in Regents Hall was the University of Indianapolis, which posted an 81-71 victory over the Norse on Feb. 9, 1999. NKUs victory Saturday snapped a five-game losing streak against Kentucky Wesleyan (13-2, 7-2 GLVC). Prior to Saturday, NKU had not beaten the Panthers since the 1997-98 season. |
