FORT WAYNE, Ind. - Craig Sanders scored 19 of his 28 points in the second half Thursday night as the Northern Kentucky University mens basketball team defeated Indiana-Purdue University at Fort Wayne, 85-77, at the Gates Sports Center. Sanders made a trio of three-point shots in the second half as NKU rallied from a 44-40 halftime deficit. Sanders three-pointer with 3:12 remaining in the game gave NKU a 77-75 lead, and the Norse never trailed again. Carl Mitchell added 12 points and six rebounds as NKU improved to 14-1 overall, 5-1 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. Todd Clark had 11 points for the Norse, who are ranked No. 4 nationally in the Division II poll. NKU has now won 13 consecutive games against IPFW, and the Norse have not lost to the Mastodons since the 1994-95 season. IPFWs last win against NKU came on Jan. 12, 1995, when the Mastodons held off the Norse, 84-75, at the Gates Sports Center in Fort Wayne, Ind. NKU meet Saint Josephs College at 4:15 p.m. Saturday at Rensselaer, Ind. NKU leads the all-time series with Saint Josephs, 26-9. The Norse have beaten Saint Josephs 12 consecutive times going into Saturdays game. NKU has not lost to Saint Josephs since the 1993-94 season, when the Pumas posted an 83-74 victory against the Norse at Rensselaer, Ind. |
