Rangers defeat Norse for just second time in history

KENOSHA, Wis. - Brian Coffman scored a game-high 24 points Thursday night as the the University of Wisconsin-Parkside men’s basketball team upset Northern Kentucky University, 81-60, at De Simone Gymnasium.

Wisconsin-Parkside (8-10 overall, 5-7 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference) built a 37-27 halftime lead by limiting NKU (18-3, 9-3 GLVC) to just 36.4 percent shooting from the field. The Rangers connected on 60.9 percent of their shots from the field in the second half and made 13 of 15 free throws to seal the win.

It marked just the second time in history Wisconsin-Parkside has defeated NKU, which entered the game ranked No. 3 nationally in the Division II poll. Wisconsin-Parkside’s only other win against the Norse came during the 1998-99 season., when the Rangers posted an 85-72 victory at Kenosha, Wis. NKU now leads the all-time series with Wisconsin-Parkside, 10-2.

Craig Sanders led NKU with 19 points, and Todd Clark added 12 points. Wisconsin-Parkside won the rebounding battle by a 39-22 margin and limited NKU to 6 of 20 shooting from three-point range.
