NKU junior forward earns honor after averaging 21.7 points |

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - Northern Kentucky Universitys Carl Mitchell has been named Great Lakes Valley Conference Player of the Week in mens basketball. Mitchell, a native of Dothan, Ala., averaged 21.7 points per game while leading his team to three victories - including the championship of the Porreco Cup Tournament. A 6-foot-9 junior forward, Mitchell scored a career-high 28 points as NKU defeated Shawnee State on December 18. He scored 37 points and grabbed 14 rebounds in two games as NKU defeated both Westminster (Pa.) and host Gannon to capture the Porreco Cup, played in Erie, Pa. Mitchell has helped NKU tie its best start in history at 12-0. His numbers for the week: 65 points (21.7 ppg), 24-42 field goals (57.1 percent) 8-18 three-pointers (44.4 percent), 9-10 FTs (90 percent), 21 rebounds (7.0), and four blocked shots. |
