LISTERMAN EARNS REGIONAL HONOR
Listerman one of 16 regional Scholar-Athlete Award winners
TROY, Mich. - Sixteen regional winners of the inaugural NCAA Division II Conference Commissioners Association Scholar-Athlete of the Year Award were announced Thursday, and Northern Kentucky Universitys Kevin Listerman was selected as the winner from the Great Lakes Region.
This new award, sponsored by Disneys Wide World of Sports complex, provides the opportunity for Division II to highlight the extraordinary achievements by its student-athletes. Division II CCA president and Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference commissioner Tom Brown said the award is a tribute to the Division II student-athletes.
The award showcases to the country what we have known all along, Brown said. Division II has the best of both worlds - great athletes and great students.
Listerman, who finished his career with the NKU mens basketball team this past season, was the male recipient of the award from the Great Lakes Region. The regional winners - eight females, eight males - were selected by the commissioners from the eight regions that comprise the Division II basketball alignment.
To be nominated, a student-athlete must have attained a 3.0 grade point average and possess outstanding athletic credentials. Listerman, who graduated Summa Cum Laude, also was awarded an NCAA postgraduate scholarship earlier this year.
