JOHN TOEBBEN

HEAD COACH

John Toebben begins his 13th season as the men’s soccer head coach at NKU. One of the top coaches in NCAA Division II soccer, Toebben has spent more than 20 years coaching in the Greater Cincinnati area.

With a strong emphasis on offense and local recruiting, Toebben has led the Norse to a 131-95-13 record since 1990, including a 72-36-7 mark against Great Lakes Valley Conference opponents. During that time, Toebben has led the Norse to three GLVC championships (1992, 93 & 95) and earned two GLVC Coach of the Year honors.

Six years ago, Toebben guided NKU to a 14-5-1 record. The Norse were ranked No. 14 nationally in the NCAA Division II poll midway through the season and finished 7-3-1 in the GLVC.

In 1995, NKU captured its third GLVC title in the past four seasons. The Norse, who defeated Bellarmine, Southern Indiana and Wisconsin-Parkside during the GLVC Tournament, posted a school-record 16 wins.

In 1994, NKU finished 15-6-1 and advanced to the finals of the GLVC Tournament before losing in overtime to Lewis, 3-1.

In 1993, NKU won the GLVC championship for the second straight season with a 2-0 victory over Lewis. The previous year, NKU posted a 13-7-2 record and won its first GLVC title since 1987. In 1991, NKU finished with a 12-8 record and placed third in the conference tournament.

In his first season at NKU in 1990, Toebben led the Norse to a 9-9-1 mark and was named Mideast Coach of the Year by the NSCAA.

Prior to coming to NKU, Toebben spent three years as men's soccer coach at Thomas More College, where he guided the Saints to a 24-24-5 mark. His team finished second in district play each season and Toebben was named NAIA District 32 Coach of the Year in 1987 and 1989.

From 1983 to 1985, Toebben coached the Kolping Soccer Program's under 19 team, and once took them on a three-week, 15-game visit to Europe. They finished 11-4 on that trip. He also has coached on the high school level at Covington Latin from 1980-84, and at Covington Catholic from 1975-79.
