The Norse received 93 total points and four first-place votes, while preseason favorite University of Southern Indiana had 95 total points and six first-place votes. NKU features senior forward Michelle Cottrell, the 2000-01 Division II Bulletin National Player of the Year. The NKU men, who finished with a 27-7 record last year, are picked third in the GLVC preseason poll. Defending NCAA Division II national champion Kentucky Wesleyan College is picked to capture its fifth consecutive GLVC championship. The Panthers are also the nations consensus No. 1 team in various preseason publications. NKU returns first team All-GLVC selection Craig Sanders (17.6 ppg) and senior forward Carl Mitchell (12.3 ppg) in 2001-02. The Norse also add 6-foot-5 guard Bobby St-Preux - who sat out as a redshirt last season - and 6-8 junior college transfer Darnell Fields to the lineup in 2001-02.
