COTTRELL NAMED GLVC’S BEST

NKU senior earns third straight Player of the Year honor

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - Northern Kentucky University’s Michelle Cottrell has been named Great Lakes Valley Conference Player of the Year for the third straight season by the league coaches.

Cottrell, a senior forward and a graduate of Boone County High School, led NKU to the GLVC regular-season championship and its fourth consecutive trip to the NCAA Division II Tournament. She averages 19.0 points and 9.4 rebounds per game entering Thursday night’s first round of the NCAA II Tournament against Northern Michigan University.

Cottrell also earned the honor as a sophomore and junior, and she is the first player in GLVC history to earn GLVC Player of the Year accolades three times.

Cottrell enters the NCAA Tournament as NKU’s all-time leading scorer with 2,148 career points.

NKU junior guard Bridget Flanagan earned second team All-GLVC honors. Flanagan, a graduate of Mercy High School in Cincinnati, averages 12.9 ppg and has made 72 three-point shots this season.
