LEWIS DEFEATS NKU, 14-2

Norse suffer third straight loss to Lewis

ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - Rhett Dwyer, Chris Maynard and Brian Fritzler all hit home runs Sunday as the Lewis University baseball team completed a three-game sweep of Northern Kentucky University with a 14-2 victory.

NKU, fighting for a berth in the upcoming Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament, also dropped a doubleheader to Lewis on Saturday and is now 34-18 overall, 11-13 in the GLVC. The Flyers improved to 25-25 overall, 10-13 in the GLVC.

NKU will close out the regular season next Saturday and Sunday by hosting Indiana-Purdue University at Fort Wayne in a three-game series. The Norse can assure themselves of a berth in the GLVC Tournament by sweeping last-place IPFW (11-30, 5-18 GLVC).

If NKU does not sweep IPFW, either Lewis or Saint Joseph’s College (10-14 GLVC) can earn the final GLVC Tournament berth by tying the Norse in the standings. Saint Joseph’s and Lewis both hold the tiebreaker with NKU, which has lost seven of its last nine GLVC games.
