KENOSHA, Wis. - Matt Masons two-run home run in the eighth inning Saturday afternoon gave the Northern Kentucky University baseball team a 5-4 win over the University of Wisconsin-Parkside in the first game of a doubleheader. NKU completed the sweep with a 5-1 victory in the second game. The Norse, now 31-11 overall, are 9-6 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. The first game counted toward the GLVC standings, while the nightcap was a non-GLVC contest. Wisconsin-Parkside held a 4-3 lead in the eighth inning of the first game when Pat Eschan doubled. After Jason Martin grounded out, Mason connected for his 11th homer of the season to give the Norse a 5-4 lead. Chris Unkraut held Wisconsin-Parkside scoreless the final two innings as NKU moved one game ahead of the Rangers (23-13 overall, 8-7 GLVC) in the GLVC North Division standings. In the second game, Kyle Pfetzer and Shaun Fausz combined on a four-hitter as NKU defeated Wisconsin-Parkside for the third time in the four-game series. Eschan and Chris Osterkamp both had two hits to lead the Norse attack. NKU entered the series ranked No. 5 in the NCAA II North Central Region ratings, and Wisconsin-Parkside was No. 4. The Norse will travel to play the University of Indianapolis this Wednesday in a GLVC doubleheader. Indianapolis (33-10) is ranked No. 1 in the North Central Region ratings, and the Greyhounds (14-1 GLVC) lead the GLVC North Division by five games. |
