Three other NKU players earn second team All-GLVC honors

EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. - Northern Kentucky University senior first baseman Matt Mason has been named first team All-Great Lakes Valley Conference by the league baseball coaches.

Mason, a graduate of Highlands High School, leads the GLVC with 11 home runs. He also has driven in 50 runs and added 15 doubles this season.

Three other NKU baseball players - junior catcher Jason Martin, junior outfielder Steve Walton and junior pitcher Lenny Bays - earned second team All-GLVC honors.

Martin, a graduate of Oak Hills High School, leads NKU in both hitting (.400 batting average) and RBI (51). Martin has 76 hits this year and needs just two in the GLVC Tournament to break the NKU single-season record of 77 (set by Alan Hayden in 1985).

Walton, a native of Rising Sun, Ind., and a graduate of Rising Sun High School, enters the GLVC Tournament with eight home runs and a .362 batting average.

Bays, a graduate of Bellevue High School, is 7-2 with a 3.19 earned run average. Bays also has 78 strikeouts and is closing in on the NKU single-season record of 85, which was set in 1997 by Mike Kichler.
