NKU SWEEPS TWO FROM BELLARMINE |

Whaley improves to 6-0 with victory |

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - Senior first baseman Matt Mason hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the sixth inning Saturday as the Northern Kentucky University baseball team defeated Bellarmine University, 2-1, in the first game of a doubleheader. NKU trailed 1-0 when Mason connected for a two-run homer to give the Norse a 2-1 lead. Junior right-hander Josh Whaley finished off Bellarmine in the top of the seventh inning to notch the complete game and improve to 6-0 this season. Whaley recorded seven strikeouts and allowed Bellarmine just five hits. NKU completed the doubleheader sweep with a 9-2 win in the nightcap. Junior catcher Jason Martin had four hits, including a home run, and four RBI to lead the Norse. Mason also added two RBI, while Justin Rahschulte had two hits and three runs scored. NKU improved to 23-7 with the sweep, and the Norse are 3-2 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. NKU will play host to Kentucky Wesleyan College at noon Sunday. |
