NKU’S BAYS DRAFTED BY ROYALS

NKU senior pitcher selected by Kansas City

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - Northern Kentucky University’s Lenny Bays has been selected by the Kansas City Royals in the 48th round of the Major League Baseball amateur draft. Bays, a senior right-hander and a graduate of Bellevue High School, posted a 9-4 record this past season for NKU. Bays finished with a 2.97 earned run average and led NKU with 81 strikeouts in 103 innings pitched. He was unbeaten (9-0) against Great Lakes Valley Conference opponents this season and had six complete games. NKU posted a 37-24 record and won the GLVC Tournament championship for the first time in history. Bays was named first team All-GLVC and also earned the GLVC Pitcher of the Year award. In addition, he was named the North Central Region’s Pitcher of the Year by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers’ Association. The Norse finished with a No. 21 national ranking in the NCAA Division II poll.
