NKU DEFEATS LEWIS, 14-1

Eschan sets NKU record with 21st double of season

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - Pat Eschan collected three hits and five runs batted in Thursday as the Northern Kentucky University baseball team posted a 14-1 victory over Lewis University in the first round of the Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament at the Bill Aker Baseball Complex at Friendship Field.

Eschan gave the Norse a 4-0 lead with a three-run home run in the third inning, and the Norse rolled past the Flyers. Eschan later set an NKU single-season record by hitting his 21st double in the fourth inning.

Beau Brake added three hits and scored three runs for NKU, which improved to 32-22. Chris Osterkamp also added three hits for the Norse, who are ranked No. 25 nationally in the NCAA Division II poll.

Lenny Bays pitched seven innings and allowed just one run for NKU. Bays improved to 9-2 with the victory.

NKU will meet either the University of Missouri-St. Louis or Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville at 2 p.m. Friday in the second round.
