HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - The Northern Kentucky University baseball team will open its home schedule Saturday at noon with a Great Lakes Valley Conference doubleheader against the University of Missouri-St. Louis at the Bill Aker Baseball Complex at Friendship Field. Missouri-St. Louis is the defending GLVC champion. NKU posted a 28-24 record a year ago and finished 15-15 in the GLVC. The two teams will conclude their four-game weekend series Sunday with a noon doubleheader. The Norse will enter Saturday with an 8-10 overall record, including a 1-3 mark in the GLVC. NKU dropped three of four games at Kentucky Wesleyan College last week in its first GLVC action of 2004. NKUs scheduled home doubleheader against the University of Indianapolis on Wednesday was postponed due to snow. The two games will be made up in April. Junior designated hitter Keith Jackson leads NKU in hitting with a .318 batting average. Jackson also has six doubles and seven runs batted in. Senior second baseman Shaun Erie is hitting .309 and is now seventh in Norse history with 190 career hits. Erie also has three doubles this season. Junior outfielder Alex Frank is batting .317 with two home runs and a team-leading 10 RBI. Frank has also scored a team-best 13 runs and collected five doubles. |
