Jackson drives in five runs in nightcap to help Norse complete sweep

KENOSHA, Wis. - Keith Jackson went 3-for-4 and drove in five runs during the second game Saturday as the Northern Kentucky University baseball team completed a doubleheader sweep of the University of Wisconsin-Parkside with a 15-6 victory.

Jackson hit a two-run home run in the second inning to give NKU a 2-0 lead, and the Norse added six more runs in the third inning to coast past Wisconsin-Parkside. Shaun Erie was 3-for-4 and scored twice for NKU, while Lewis Jones added two hits and three RBI.

Craig Craddock and Justin Mundt each added two RBI for NKU, which collected 17 hits in the nightcap. Alex Frank scored three runs for the Norse.

In the opener, sophomore right-hander Derrik Moeves allowed just one hit and struck out six batters in six innings on the mound as NKU posted a 3-1 win over Wisconsin-Parkside. Justin Seiter pitched a scoreless seventh inning to record his second save of the season.

Jerrod Fraley’s RBI single in the sixth inning snapped a 1-1 tie to give NKU a 2-1 lead, and Jackson added an insurance run with an RBI double later in the inning.

Moeves upped his record to 2-1 this spring, and he leads the GLVC in strikeouts with 48.

NKU improved to 15-13 overall, 8-6 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. Wisconsin-Parkside dropped to 18-11 overall, 12-6 in the GLVC.

NKU has now beaten Wisconsin-Parkside 11 consecutive times dating back to the 2001 season. The Rangers have not beaten NKU since April 13, 2001.

The two teams will conclude their four-game series Sunday with a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
