NKU SPLITS TWO AT INDY

Moeves leads Norse to 3-1 win in opener

INDIANAPOLIS - Freshman right-hander Derrik Moeves allowed just two hits and one run in 6 1/3 innings Wednesday as Northern Kentucky University defeated the University of Indianapolis, 3-1, in the first game of a doubleheader.

Moeves also picked up seven strikeouts and improved his record to 4-2. Justin Seiter came on in relief with one out in the seventh inning and recorded his fourth save of the season.

Conor McGeehan and Shaun Erie each picked up run-scoring singles in the fifth inning to rally NKU from a 1-0 deficit. Chris Osterkamp added an insurance run in the seventh inning with a bunt single that plated McGeehan.

In the nightcap, Indianapolis erupted for four runs in the seventh inning and posted a 6-3 win over NKU. Gary Mauer scattered six hits over eight innings to pick up the win for the Greyhounds.

Erie added two hits and two runs scored for NKU, while teammate Josh Perkins collected two RBI. Chris Unkraut (2-3) gave up four runs in the seventh inning and took the loss for NKU.

NKU is now 18-12 overall, 11-5 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. Indianapolis is 24-10 overall, 12-6 in the GLVC.

The Norse will play host to Ashland University at 2 p.m. Thursday in a non-conference doubleheader at the Bill Aker Baseball Complex at Friendship Field.
