NKU SWEEPS DOUBLEHEADER FROM BRESCIA

Norse improve to 24-23 with two wins on Wednesday

 

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - Junior first baseman Matt Mason broke a 3-3 tie with a home run in the bottom of the sixth inning Wednesday afternoon as the Northern Kentucky University baseball team defeated Brescia University, 4-3, in the first game of a doubleheader at Friendship Field.

The Norse (24-23) later completed the doubleheader sweep by taking the second game, 8-7, on Lenny Bays’ RBI single in the bottom of the eighth inning. NKU’s Brandon Smith had tied the game at 7-7 with a two-run double in the bottom of the seventh inning.

In the first game, Mason led off the bottom of the sixth inning with a home run to left field to snap a 3-3 tie and give NKU a 4-3 lead. Shaun Fausz came out of the bullpen and recorded his ninth save of the season in the opener.

NKU will play host to a pair of Great Lakes Valley Conference doubleheaders this weekend, beginning on Saturday at noon when the University of Southern Indiana visits Friendship Field. NKU will also face Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville at noon on Sunday.
