Norse lose for the first time this season

DAYTON, Ohio - The Northern Kentucky University women’s tennis team lost Tuesday for the first time this season, dropping a 6-3 decision at Wright State University.

The Norse (10-1) won two of the three doubles matches to take a 2-1 lead going into singles competition, but the NCAA Division I Raiders took five of six singles matches to remain unbeaten (4-0).

NKU junior No. 1 singles player Jamie O’Hara improved 11-0 this season with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Karen Dunbar. O’Hara also teamed with senior Claudia Ruehl in No. 1 doubles to post an 8-3 win.

NKU will attempt to win its third consecutive Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament championship this weekend at Edwardsville, Ill., beginning with a 9 a.m. first-round match against Saint Joseph’s on Friday. The semifinals will also be played on Friday.

The GLVC Tournament finals are scheduled for Saturday. NKU has won 35 consecutive matches against GLVC opponents, and the Norse have not lost to a conference team since the 1997 season.

RECORDS: WSU 4-0, NKU 10-1.
