KANSAS CITY,
Mo. - The winning streak is at 10 for the Northern Kentucky University
volleyball team, which posted a four-set victory against Rockhurst
on Thursday night.
Natalie Forbes
dished out 46 assists and recorded 13 digs as NKU won by scores
of 22-25, 25-15, 25-21, 25-22. The 23rd-ranked Norse improved to
19-3 overall, 9-1 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference.
NKU also extended
its current winning streak to 10 and has not lost since dropping
a three-set decision at Lewis on Sept. 13. The 10 consecutive wins
are the most by NKU since 2004, when the Norse ran off 12 straight
victories between Oct. 8 and Nov. 11 that season.
Forbes, a senior
setter from Highlands High School, added five kills and attacked
at a .364 clip as NKU cruised to the win. Kelsey Wesaw, who on Monday
was named GLVC Player of the Week, finished with 17 kills and added
four blocks.
Kristina Eisenmenger
and Noelle Peterson each tallied 11 kills. Kim Nemcek finished with
seven kills and 17 digs for the Norse, who hit .280 as a team. Nemcek
attacked at a .385 clip for the match.
Rockhurst (12-8
overall, 6-4 GLVC) held a 22-20 lead in the fourth set, but NKU
closed with a 5-0 run to win the match. Nemcek and Eisenmenger combined
for a block to tie the set at 22-all. NKU took a 23-22 lead when
Nemcek converted a kill, and Katie Latenser served up an ace to
make it 24-22.
Eisenmenger
then ended the contest with a kill off an assist from Forbes. The
Notre Dame Academy graduate now has 1,543 career kills and moved
past Cammi Welter (1,535 kills) into sixth place in school history
Thursday night.
The Norse defense
finished with a 64-49 advantage in digs and limited Rockhurst to
a .134 hitting percentage. Chelsea Clark collected 16 digs for NKU.
NKU concludes
the road trip Friday night with a GLVC match at Drury in Springfield,
Mo. The Norse can wrap up their 16th consecutive 20-win season with
a victory on Friday.
