INDIANAPOLIS - Northern Kentucky University’s Kelsey Wesaw has been named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday.

Wesaw, a 6-foot-3 senior right-side hitter, led NKU to three consecutive wins last week by recording 40 kills and attacking at a .478 clip. She finished with 13 kills and a .550 hitting percentage Thursday night as NKU handed Missouri-St. Louis its first GLVC defeat with a 25-16, 25-14, 25-21 victory in Regents Hall.

Wesaw followed that with 10 kills and a .471 hitting percentage as NKU swept past Missouri S&T on Friday. She capped her week Saturday with 17 kills, four blocks and a .438 hitting percentage as NKU won its ninth consecutive match with a five-set victory against Quincy.

In the win over Quincy, NKU rallied behind the play of Wesaw and senior setter Natalie Forbes, who recorded 54 assists, 12 digs and three blocks. After Quincy took a 21-20 lead in the third set, NKU closed with a 5-2 run for a 25-23 win. Wesaw ended the set by slamming down a kill off an assist from Forbes.

The Norse attacked at a .355 clip in the fourth set and cruised to a 25-17 win. NKU then captured the match by hitting .545 in the fifth set en route to a 15-5 victory.

A pair of Wesaw kills sandwiched around a service ace by Noelle Peterson allowed NKU to build a 3-0 lead in the fifth set, and the Norse rolled to the win.

For the season, Wesaw is hitting .333 and is second on the team with 228 kills. The Lansing, Mich., native is also third on the team in total blocks with 39.

NKU is 18-3 overall, 8-1 in the GLVC. The Norse, who are ranked 23rd nationally in the NCAA Division II poll, hit the road this week for matches at Rockhurst (Thursday) and Drury (Friday).
