Ky. - Northern Kentucky University vaulted into the NCAA Division
II national rankings at No. 25 on Monday, the American Volleyball
Coaches Association announced in its weekly poll.
NKU has won
14 of its past 15 matches and is currently 15-3 overall. The Norse,
who had been receiving votes in the national poll, entered this
week’s rankings at No. 25 with a total of 64 points.
Two other Great
Lakes Valley Conference teams, No. 18 Lewis and No. 22 Indianapolis,
are also in the national poll. NKU defeated Indianapolis on Sept.
20 in Regents Hall. Earlier this season, Lewis knocked off NKU at
NKU also played
No. 5 Tampa and No. 6 Florida Southern earlier this season at Tampa,
Fla., and lost both of those matches.
NKU plays host
to Missouri-St. Louis at 7 p.m. Thursday in a key GLVC match. Missouri-St.
Louis is 13-2 overall, and the Tritons lead the GLVC West Division
with a 7-0 record.
NKU is tied
with Indianapolis for second place in the GLVC East Division with
a 5-1 mark. Lewis leads the GLVC East Division with a 6-0 record.
The past two
years, Missouri-St. Louis has upset NKU in St. Louis, Mo. The Tritons
stunned the 22nd-ranked Norse last season in three sets.
senior right-side hitter Kristina Eisenmenger, who leads the GLVC
in kills (3.75 kpg) and hitting percentage (.399). Eisenmenger enters
Thursday with 1,497 career kills, which is seventh in Norse history.
Natalie Forbes is No. 1 in the GLVC in assists per game at 11.39.
She has directed the NKU offense to a GLVC-leading .325 hitting
is No. 2 on the team in kills (188) and is hitting .307. Annie Lucas
leads NKU with 60 total blocks (1.03 bpg).
