HEIGHTS, Ky. - Former St. Henry High School volleyball player Maria
Scherrer, who finished fifth nationally in digs per game last season
while at Holy Family University, has transferred to Northern Kentucky
6.87 digs per game, which was fifth nationally in the NCAA Division
II statistics in 2007. The 5-foot-8 libero collected 900 digs -
the second-highest total in the nation - in 38 matches for Holy
Family, which finished with an 18-21 overall record.
The 6.87 digs
per game and 900 total digs are the all-time records for the Central
Atlantic Collegiate Conference in those categories. Scherrer also
served up 64 aces last season, which ranked second on the team.
She was named to the AVCA’s All-Northeast Region squad and
the All-CACC first team.
While at St.
Henry, Scherrer helped the Crusaders finish as state runner-up in
2006. She was named to both the state and regional all-state teams
as a senior.
has three years of eligibility remaining, will join an NKU team
that posted a 26-9 record last season. The Norse also advanced to
the NCAA Division II Tournament.
