HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - The Northern Kentucky University volleyball team has received an at-large berth in the NCAA Division II Tournament, and the fourth-seeded Norse will take on No. 5 seed Southern Illinois at Edwardsville in the first round of the Great Lakes Regional at 5 p.m. Thursday at Allendale, Mich.

NKU enters the NCAA Division II Tournament with a 26-8 overall record. The Norse, who are making their first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2003, finished in third place in the Great Lakes Valley Conference East Division this fall.

SIUE, which won the GLVC West Division title this fall, is 26-6 entering the NCAA Tournament. NKU defeated SIUE in four games earlier this season in Regents Hall in their only meeting.

Grand Valley State (30-3) is the No. 1 seed and host for the Great Lakes Regional. The Lakers captured the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference championship. Grand Valley State will meet No. 8 seed Charleston (W. Va.) in the opening round Thursday.

NKU lost to Grand Valley State in four games earlier this season in a match at Ashland, Ohio. The NKU/SIUE winner will likely meet Grand Valley State in the regional semifinals on Friday.

DYE, HOLMES EARN ACADEMIC HONORS: NKU senior volleyball players Tristen Dye and Liz Holmes have been named to the ESPN The Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-District IV College Division volleyball team.

Dye, an accounting major from Millersburg, Ohio, earned a spot on the first team. Holmes, a Cincinnati native and a history/social studies education major, was selected to the second team.
