HIGHLAND HEIGHTS,
Ky. - Northern Kentucky University will open its volleyball season
Friday in Florence, Ala., at the North Alabama Classic.
NKU meets North
Dakota at 3 p.m. Friday in its opening match. Later that evening,
the Norse will take on No. 9 North Alabama at 8 p.m.
On Saturday,
NKU plays No. 8 Ashland - the defending NCAA Division II Great Lakes
Region champion. In addition, the Norse play Tusculum on Saturday.
20-WIN
MACHINE: NKU owns 14 consecutive 20-win seasons entering
2007. The Norse were 20-13 a year ago.
HOLMES
CLOSES IN ON 1,300 KILLS: Two-time All-America middle Liz
Holmes enters her senior season with 1,295 career kills, which ranks
eighth in Norse history. A year ago, Holmes led the GLVC in hitting
percentage (.396, which was No. 3 nationally) and earned a spot
on the All-GLVC first team for the third straight season.
The Cincinnati
Mother of Mercy High School graduate is aiming to become the only
three-time All-American in NKU volleyball history.
ABOUT
NORTH DAKOTA: The Fighting Sioux posted a 15-11 record
last season and are picked to finish fifth in the North Central
Conference preseason poll. NKU has met North Dakota just once in
volleyball, and the Norse dropped a 30-23, 30-24, 25-30, 30-19 decision
to the Fighting Sioux on Aug. 29, 2003, at Jacksonville, Fla.
INDIANA
TECH VISITS NKU AUG. 28:
NKU begins its home season next Tuesday (Aug. 28) when Indiana Tech
visits Regents Hall for a 7 p.m. match. That match can also be heard
live on the Internet at www.nkunorse.com.
