HIGHLAND HEIGHTS,
Ky. - Northern Kentucky University plays host to Great Lakes Intercollegiate
Athletic Conference power Findlay at 7 p.m. Tuesday in Regents Hall
in a key regional volleyball match.
Findlay is currently
ranked 25th nationally in the Division II poll, and the Oilers enter
Tuesday’s match with a 20-6 record. NKU is 17-11 overall after
posting a four-game win at Wisconsin-Parkside on Saturday.
NKU and Findlay
last met on Sept. 4, 2004, and the Oilers posted a 30-25, 35-33,
30-21 win over the Norse at Findlay, Ohio. Findlay owns a 3-2 lead
in the all-time series with NKU and has won the last three regular-season
meetings with the Norse.
NKU’s
last regular-season win against Findlay came on Oct. 23, 2002, when
the Norse pulled out a 30-22, 28-30, 30-24, 31-29 victory at Findlay,
Ohio. In 2003, the two teams played in the NCAA Division II Great
Lakes Regional at Marquette, Mich., and NKU defeated Findlay in
four games.
NKU junior middle
hitter Liz Holmes leads the Great Lakes Valley Conference in hitting
percentage at .385. Holmes ranks No. 6 in kills per game at 3.65
and is No. 9 in service aces at 0.46 sapg.
Holmes, a graduate
of Mercy High School in Cincinnati, enters Tuesday night with 1,215
career kills, which ranks eighth in school history.
NKU is currently
tied with Indianapolis for fourth place in the GLVC standings with
9-5 records, and it appears those two teams will meet in the first
round of the GLVC Tournament. Southern Illinois at Edwardsville
has already clinched the No. 1 seed in the GLVC Tournament, which
begins Nov. 2.
NKU closes out
its GLVC regular-season schedule at home this weekend with matches
against Drury (Friday at 7 p.m.) and Rockhurst (Saturday at 3 p.m.).
NKU will hold Senior Night festivities prior to Friday’s match
and recognize Norse seniors Andrea Lanham and Jennifer Wirtz.
The Norse will
also play host to Charleston (W. Va.) on Oct. 30 at 7 p.m. before
leaving for the GLVC Tournament.
