SAN JUAN, Puerto
Rico - Northern Kentucky University’s Carlos Chia recorded
his 100th career coaching victory Saturday as his Norse volleyball
team defeated Puerto Rico-Bayamon, 30-25, 21-30, 30-27, 30-27.
Chia, in his
fifth season as NKU’s head coach, is 100-37 with the Norse.
He has twice been named Great Lakes Valley Conference Coach of the
Year.
Liz Holmes
finished with 17 kills and 20 digs to lead NKU against Puerto Rico-Bayamon.
Holmes also added three blocks for the Norse.
Tristen Dye
collected 11 kills and 12 digs, while teammate Kristina Eisenmenger
had 10 kills, five blocks and a .412 hitting percentage.
Natalie Forbes
dished out 26 assists, served up three aces and finished with 11
digs for NKU. Maria Tieman had three service aces and collected
10 digs.
NKU later knocked
off Puerto Rico-Cayey, 30-11, 29-31, 30-22, 30-23, to improve to
3-1. Dye had 17 kills, a .351 hitting percentage and 10 digs for
the Norse, while Holmes added 14 kills, eight service aces and nine
blocks.
Andrea Lanham
finished with 43 assists and four blocks for NKU. Lynne Fischesser
collected 10 kills and six service aces, while teammate Kristina
Eisenmenger added 10 kills and a .500 hitting percentage.
The Norse will
hit the road next Thursday for Harrogate, Tenn., and a match against
Lincoln Memorial at 6 p.m.
NKU will then
travel to Jefferson City, Tenn., to play in the Carson-Newman Tournament
Sept. 2-3. The Norse will begin the event against Palm Beach Atlantic
at noon on Sept. 2, and later play Newberry at 4:30 p.m.
