NKU HITS ROAD FOR CHARLESTON (W. Va.) - Sept. 8, 2005
NKU (7-2) opens Charleston Tournament at 2 p.m. Friday against Shepherd (W. Va.)

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - The Northern Kentucky University volleyball team will play four matches this weekend at the Charleston (W. Va.) Tournament.

NKU begins the two-day event at 2 p.m. Friday with a match against Shepherd (W. Va.). The Norse will later play tournament host Charleston at 6 p.m.

NKU concludes the weekend with matches against Mars Hill and Indiana (Pa.) on Saturday. NKU owns a 7-2 record after going 3-1 last weekend at the Lady Eagle Classic at Jefferson City, Tenn.

NKU’s Liz Holmes was named Great Lakes Valley Conference Player of the Week on Tuesday. Holmes, a sophomore middle hitter and a graduate of Mercy High School in Cincinnati, recorded 93 total kills last week. She also hammered down a career-high 30 kills in a victory over Palm Beach Atlantic at the Lady Eagle Classic.

Holmes hit .326 for the week and averaged 4.89 kills per game. She also averaged 0.53 aces, 2.68 digs per game and had 12 total blocks.

For the season, Holmes leads NKU in kills (156), blocks (35), digs (94) and service aces (23).

NKU sophomore outside hitter Tristen Dye is second on the team in total kills (133). Norse freshman right-side hitter Kristina Eisenmenger is hitting a team-leading .345 and has 67 kills. She also ranks second on the team with 20 total blocks.
