KANSAS CITY,
Mo. - Nathalia Rivera and Karla Schroff combined for 30 kills as
Rockhurst defeated Northern Kentucky University, 28-30, 30-28, 30-23,
30-26, Friday night at the Mason-Halpin Field House.
Rivera finished
with 16 kills and 14 digs for Rockhurst, which is ranked 20th nationally
in the NCAA Division II poll. Schroff added 14 kills and a .323
hitting percentage as the Hawks snapped NKU’s winning streak
at seven in the first-ever meeting between the two volleyball programs.
Kecia Jennings
added 10 kills, 51 assists, three service aces and a .667 hitting
percentage for Rockhurst, which improved to 12-2 overall, 3-0 in
the Great Lakes Valley Conference. The Hawks were coming off a five-game
loss to top-ranked Truman State on Wednesday.
Kristina Eisenmenger
led NKU (13-3 overall, 2-1 GLVC) with 19 kills and a .349 hitting
percentage. The Norse, however, attacked at just a .203 clip as
a team and committed 29 hitting errors.
NKU’s
Liz Holmes finished with 17 kills and eight digs, but the sophomore
middle hitter was held to a .237 hitting percentage. Julie Lewis
added 10 kills for NKU, while Tristen Dye collected nine kills.
Andrea Lanham recorded 50 assists, 10 digs and eight kills for the
Norse.
Fabiana Borsari
and Tammie Rech each contributed 10 kills to the Rockhurst offensive
attack. The Hawks lost the opening game Friday as NKU hit .286,
but the Norse were held under .200 the following three stanzas as
Rockhurst rallied for the victory.
NKU will conclude
its trip Saturday with a match against Drury at Springfield, Mo.
