HIGHLAND HEIGHTS,
Ky. - Northern Kentucky University’s Liz Holmes has been named
Great Lakes Valley Conference Player of the Week in volleyball.
Holmes, a sophomore
middle hitter and a graduate of Mercy High School in Cincinnati,
recorded 93 total kills last week as NKU posted a 4-1 record. She
also hammered down a career-high 30 kills in a victory over Palm
Beach Atlantic at the Lady Eagle Classic in Jefferson City, Tenn.
Holmes started
last week with 15 kills, nine digs and a .700 hitting percentage
as NKU knocked off previously unbeaten Lincoln Memorial in three
games on the road. She also added a 23-kill performance in a five-game
victory against Newberry (S.C.) at the Lady Eagle Classic.
Holmes hit
.326 for the week and averaged 4.89 kills per game. She also averaged
0.53 aces, 2.68 digs per game and had 12 total blocks as NKU improved
to 7-2.
NKU will play
at the Charleston (W. Va.) Tournament this weekend, beginning with
a 2 p.m. match against Shepherd on Friday. The Norse will face host
Charleston at 6 p.m. later that day.
