HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - The season may be over, but the Northern Kentucky University softball team continues to bring in the hardware as Cara Parker was named to the 2009 Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division II All-Midwest Region first team.

Parker, a senior from Maineville, Ohio, was joined on the All-Midwest Region team by teammates Amanda Smith and Jessica Farris, both second team honorees.

Parker ended her senior season by leading the team with 14 doubles and was second in batting with a .331 average.  Parker, who was named to the first team as a third baseman, started all 55 games in her senior season and finished her career by starting in 165 consecutive games.

Smith, a senior from Canal Winchester, Ohio, was named to the second team as a first baseman after finishing her senior season by starting all 55 games for the Norse.  Smith led the team multiple offensive categories including batting average (.341), at-bats (170), hits (58), and walks (20).

Smith was also leader among everyday starters with a .994 fielding percentage as she committed only two errors in 336 chances.

Farris, a freshman from Independence, Ky., continues to garner post-season accolades as she was named to the second team as a shortstop.  The honor comes just one day after being named to the Daktronics Division II All-Midwest Region first team as a shortstop.

A graduate of Simon Kenton High School, Farris was one of four Norse players to start all 55 games this season as the Norse won the Great Lakes Valley Conference tournament title for just the second time in school history.  Farris was also named to the All-GLVC second team as well as being named the GLVC Freshman of the Year.

NKU finished the season with a 32-23 mark.
