ST. LOUIS – The Northern Kentucky University softball team struggled to find an offensive spark against Missouri-St. Louis, dropping both ends of a doubleheader by identical 2-0 scores.

Game 1 saw the Tritons (30-13, 14-3 Great Lakes Valley Conference) get all their scoring in the fifth inning on back-to-back RBI-doubles by Kelly Essner and Megan Riggs.  NKU’s Chelsie Roy (9-7) pitched a solid game, allowing just two runs on five hits while striking out two, but Allyson DeFossett (17-3) was simply dominant, surrendering just two base hits and striking out 10 as the Tritons let just one Norse reach second base.

UMSL manufactured runs in the third and sixth innings to take a 2-0 decision in Game 2.  April Ehlers (9-11) pitched a complete game for NKU, giving up one earned run on four hits while striking out five.  Six different NKU batters picked up hits in the contest.

With the losses, the Norse fall back even at 18-18 overall and 8-8 in GLVC play.

Northern Kentucky returns to action on Tuesday, hosting Urbana in non-conference action.  First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
