EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The
Northern Kentucky University softball team found the going tough
on Sunday, falling to Great Lakes Valley
Conference foe Southern Indiana by scores of 6-0 and 7-0.
In Game
1, the Eagles got all of their runs in the second inning, punctuated
by a bases-loaded double by Kristin Eickholt, to cruise
to victory. Stephanie Schneider was stellar for the Eagles, allowing
a lone single to NKU’s Rose Broderick while striking out
three for the win.
April Ehlers (4-10) was rocked for 10 hits and
six runs in just 1 2/3 innings. Chelsie Roy pitched 4 1/3 innings
of relief, picking
up three strikeouts without allowing a run.
Game 2 saw the Eagles
score runs in each of the first four innings, while NKU was unable
to get a runner past second base until the
seventh, when they left the bases loaded to end the game.
Amanda
Smith and Cara Parker each went 2-for-3 in Game 2 for the Norse,
while each USI starter collected at least one hit.
Smith (5-5)
took the loss in the circle, giving up nine hits and four earned
runs in three innings. Karen Simmons gave
up two runs
in the fourth, but settled down nicely, retiring her final
seven batters in order.
Northern Kentucky (11-19, 4-8 GLVC)
returns home for an eight-game home stand, and will step out
of conference
on Thursday when
the Norse host Findlay at Grein Softball Field. First
pitched is scheduled
for 3 p.m.
