KISSIMMEE, Fla. – The Northern Kentucky University softball team got off to a slow start at the Rebel Spring Games as they dropped decisions to No. 22 Le Moyne and Ferris State.

The Dolphins made use of a seven-run second inning to take a 9-0 run-rule decision in the early game. The Norse had just four hits, with Gretchen Lorenz slapping a single up the middle in her only at bat. Chelsie Roy (0-2) took the loss, giving up six runs in 1 1/3 inning.

In the nightcap, the Norse gave up five in the top of the first as the Bulldogs run-ruled the Norse, 10-2, in five innings. April Ehlers went 1-for-2 with an RBI, driving in Sam Del Vecchio in the bottom of the fifth to break up Holly Bruntjens’ shutout bid. Ehlers (0-3) took the loss, striking out five batters in the process.

Northern Kentucky (1-5) looks to reverse its fortunes Sunday as the Norse take on East Stroudsburg and Northwood. First pitch is scheduled for 9 a.m.
