DECATUR, Ala. – The
Northern Kentucky University softball team ended the Charger
Chillout on a sour note, dropping games to Alabama-Huntsville,
11-1, and West Florida, 3-0.
In Game 1,
UAH got the scoring started with a five-run second inning, including
a leadoff home run by
Beth Lawson and a two-run bomb
by Erin Duke. Lawson hit her second homer of the day in the fifth
inning to increase the lead to seven. UAH scored four more in
the top half of the seventh before NKU was able to plate Shatona
Campbell
on the game’s last play.
Chelise Roy
(0-1) took the loss for the Norse, going just one complete inning
in the start. Amanda Smith
struck out two in 3 2/3 innings of relief. Caitlin Lee (5-0)
struck out six Norse to take the win
for UAH.
The Norse fared
no better against West Florida, allowing single runs in the first,
third and sixth innings for the 3-0
final
result. Freshman Gretchen Lorenz was the lone bright spot
in the Norse
offense, going 1-for-3 on the game, including her second
double of the season.
April Ehlers
had another strong pitching performance to defy her 0-2 record,
going five strong innings
with just one
earned run
allowed against five strikeouts. Taren Wilson went the
distance for the Argonauts, scattering four hits and striking
out
nine.
The Norse will
take some time off before heading to Kissimmee, Fla., over Spring
Break to compete in the Rebel
Spring Games. NKU-UAH
