DECATUR, Ala. - Jenny Weis showed off her dominance both at the plate and on the base paths as the Northern Kentucky University softball team took a split away from Day 2 of the Charger Chillout, defeating Southern Arkansas, 11-3, before falling to Wayne State (Mich.) by a 2-1 score.

Weis kicked the speed up early, beating out an infield single in the top of the first inning against the Muleriders and later scoring on a Shatona Campbell single. The Norse put up four runs each in the first and second innings to jump ahead early and stay ahead.

The junior catcher closed things out in the top of the fifth with a two-run home run to straight-away center field. All told, Weis was 2-for-4 on the game with three runs scored and two RBI and a stolen base.

Amanda Smith (1-0) pitched four innings, giving up three earned runs and striking out one, to pick up the victory.

The night cap was a completely different story as the Norse ran into the No. 20 ranked Warriors. In a pitcher's duel, it was the Norse who struck first in the bottom of the third inning when Weis led off with her second infield single of the day and proceeded to steal her way to third base, where Amanda Smith brought her in with a base hit up the middle for the early 1-0 lead.

Wayne State leveled the score in the top of the fifth, bringing Lindsey Perry around to score on a Sarah Berry single, and took the lead in the seventh when Perry took a 3-2 pitch up the middle, bringing home Lisa Seymour for the difference-making run.

April Ehlers (0-1) went the distance for the Norse, giving up seven hits and striking out two in her first career start.

The Norse (1-1) wrap up the Charger Chillout on Sunday when they face No. 16 Alabama-Huntsville and West Florida.
