----Rose Broderick is mobbed after hitting a home run Thursday.

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - Rose Broderick went 2-for-4 with a home run and double as Northern Kentucky University posted a 6-5 win over Ashland to gain a split of a doubleheader Thursday at Frank Ignatius Grein Field.

Broderick, a freshman shortstop and a graduate of Oak Hills High School in Cincinnati, hit a two-run homer to left-center field in the second inning to give NKU a 4-3 lead. It was Broderick's team-leading fifth home run of the spring.

NKU snapped a 5-all tie in the bottom of the fifth inning by pushing across a run on an Ashland throwing error that allowed Krista Smith to score.

Sophomore Candace White pitched four scoreless innings in relief to pick up her ninth victory of the season for NKU, which improved to 18-12. Becky Napier and Sydney Doyle each added two hits for the Norse.

In the opener, Ashland pitcher Jaime Williams scattered five hits and struck out 10 NKU batters as the Eagles posted a 3-1 win. Broderick collected two hits for NKU, which was unable to overcome an early 3-0 deficit.

Ashland is 16-7 after splitting the two regional games.

NKU will travel to Dahlonega, Ga., to meet Lincoln Memorial and Augusta State on Friday in the Fire Mountain Classic.
