HIGHLAND HEIGHTS,
Ky. - Northern Kentucky University's Rose Broderick is the Great
Lakes Valley Conference Player of the Week in softball, the league
office announced Monday.
Broderick, a
graduate of Oak Hills High School in Cincinnati, hit .647 last weekend
in conference action with seven RBI, five runs and three doubles
as the Norse took three of four games from Missouri-St. Louis and
Quincy.
In NKU's sweep
over Missouri-St. Louis on Saturday, Broderick finished the day
7-for-10 with three RBI, two doubles and a home run. In game one,
the freshman went 3-for-5, including her fourth home run of the
season. In the nightcap Broderick came through with a two-out, two-run
double in the top of the seventh to push the go-ahead run across
the plate.
Sunday against
Quincy, Broderick was 4-for-7 at the plate, including a four RBI,
3-for-4 performance in the second game of the doubleheader as the
Norse split the meeting.
For the year,
Broderick has posted a .391 batting average with eight doubles,
four home runs, 16 RBI and a .621 slugging percentage, all tops
for the Norse. It is NKU's first Player of the Week award in 2007.
Amanda Smith was named GLVC Pitcher of the Week Feb. 5.
NKU (16-8, 3-1
GLVC) will travel to Ohio Dominican on Thursday before hosting Lewis
and Wisconsin-Parkside in conference action this weekend.
