HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - Northern Kentucky University's Amanda Smith has been named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Pitcher of the Week in softball.

Smith helped the Norse to a 2-2 record in Florence, Ala., last weekend. It
is her second consecutive GLVC Pitcher of the Week award dating back to the 2006 season.

The Canal Winchester, Ohio, native hurled a complete-game shutout in a 6-0 win over Arkansas Tech last Friday. Smith retired 11 consecutive
batters at one point and struck out three while forcing 14 ground outs.

On Saturday against North Alabama, Smith started and pitched four innings in game one, giving up three earned runs and striking out two in a 5-1 loss.

The sophomore had a relief appearance in game two, pitching a scoreless sixth before allowing an unearned run in the seventh. On the season, Smith has a 1-2 record with a 1.75 earned run average.

Opposing batters are hitting .245 against her. Smith was last named Pitcher of the Week during the final week of the 2006 season, posting a 3-0 record against Quincy and Missouri-St. Louis.

NKU returns to action Feb. 23-25 in Decatur, Ala., at the Alabama-Huntsville Charger Chillout tournament.
