EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. - Nationally ranked Southern Illinois at Edwardsville swept a doubleheader from Northern Kentucky University on Saturday, taking the opener by a 4-3 score in eight innings, and later posting a 10-1 win in five innings.

No. 13 SIUE improved to 28-7 overall, 10-4 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. NKU dropped to 20-18 overall, 5-7 in the GLVC.

NKU received a two-run double from Jenny Weis early in the game and held a 3-1 lead going into the bottom of the seventh of the opener, but SIUE rallied. The Cougars tied the game when Chaleen Rumpf, who pinch ran after a Sabra McCune double, stole home on a failed pickoff attempt.

Katy Biggs then scored on an error by Weis to tie the game at 3-all.
With the bases loaded in the eighth, Ashley Price drove home Nicole Beecher from third to give SIUE the 4-3 win. Price hit the ball to NKU third baseman Rose Broderick, who was unable to make a play.

Kaitlin Colosimo picked up the win in relief and later earned a complete-game victory in the nightcap. SIUE led the second game 1-0 until the fourth when Sydney Doyle singled home Jessica Feldhaus to even the score at 1-all. The Cougars took the lead in the bottom of the fourth when Rumpf, pinch-running in game two, stole third and scored on an error by the catcher.

With two outs in the inning, Price doubled to short left field as a pair of NKU players collided. After more than 20 minutes to tend to an injured NKU player, SIUE rallied for five more two-out runs to take a 7-1 lead after four innings.

In the fifth, McCune reached on an error that allowed her to get to second. Price followed with her second double of the game. Beecher ended the game with a two-run blast to right field that hit the SIUE scoreboard.

The Norse return home Tuesday for a non-conference doubleheader against West Liberty State. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
